making it work

Karool Massage

A simple static site. They wanted a clean open look in keeping with the philosophy of the massage type.

Since the site won't have a lot of ongoing updates it didn't make sense to implement a content management system.

Domestic Violence Crisis Service Website

DVCS wanted a professional look but with a informal, personal feel. It's a necessarily text heavy site so i went for a longer form view. It's easier to read text with a simple scroll down than to hunt around to switch to another page. It's also much easier to print out in this form.

They also wanted to be able to update some content themselves. So I implemented a variable permissions based content management system for them. The Home page has a news section that shows up when something of interest comes up, ie when a positions vacant is available. The other CMS pages are Contacts and Frequently Asked Questions.

The CMS also supports a calender, email, forums and RSS if they wish to expand.

I also moved them to a new webhost which supported the necessary PHP and MySQL.

The brief included a new logo, business cards and letterhead.

A most enjoyable project

Multicultural Festival Website

This website was designed with a lot of the elements from the print materials.

It serves as a program guide, information source and a promotional role. During the non-festival period it's main purpose is to provide a point of contact for the new acts for the following year and occaisonal updates as acts are booked.

There's a lot of information that needs to be portrayed quickly and simply. I'm not a fan of complex and/or confusing navigation and unecessary page navigation. Much easier to simply scroll, rather than the scroll, click to navigate to next page and wait for page load routine.

Auskoi

I expanded on the original design to incorparate more pages for the sale of Koi. It was a big job as there are a lot of fish for sale.

Reorganised the text and some structure. Basically just a refresh and continual updates

Bonsai Art

This was similar to the Auskoi site where I expanded on the original design to incorparate more pages and for the sale of Bonsai equipment.

Added new text and some structure. Basically just a refresh and continual updates

Eurocopter Australia Website

I was asked to revamp their website on short notice to meet a tender deadline. The entire website was redesigned and new graphics produced. 17 pages, 60 photos, Formailers, page counter and statistics. I had a week.

The website was used in conjunction with printed material produced by Metrographics Design for the tender documents.

I restructured the site to make it easier, simpler and quicker to navigate

Eurocopter won the tender to supply their helicopters to the Australian Defence Force. The site is now down as it was part of the finished tender process. I've linked to a local version here.

The banner graphic on the website was done by Jeremy Bulkeley at Metrographics. My version is the one above.

It was a very exciting project to be involved with, and I'd like to thank Metrographics for bringing me in to do it.

Posture & Flexibility

I've been involved with P&F since 1992 doing mainly their print work. This involved page design, photomanipulation and illustration for more than 4 books. The webpage was started in 1999 and has been updated and redesigned since then to it's current form.

The overriding brief has been to allow the design to expand as the site grows. To allow more buttons to be added to the navigation bar, to add more text and graphics etc while still maintaining a consistent layout. The design started as 5 pages and has since grown to over 20, without a major change to the structure and graphics. It's also easy to update and maintain.

Morison & Wall Interactive

I do interface and graphics work for Morison & Wall interactive. They wanted their website to emphasise their work as programmers for interactive touch screen systems. Hence i chose a "building block" metaphor to represent their skills at building a unique or standard set of interactive applications.

Disa Designs

Disa is involved in the manufacture of kiosks for touchscreen systems.

I also do their 3d visualisations for kiosks both in production and development. In development phase i take the engineering data from SolidEdge and produce photorealistic images of the completed kiosk. These are then presented to the customer for approval or corrections.

This has saved an enormous amount of time as it means a actual physical model doesn't need to be constructed until the design is finalised.

I can also combine the rendering with photos of the location to show how the kiosk will look on location.
